Tips on How to Revamp and Resell Vintage Clothing   by Jamie Simpson

If you have vintage clothing in your wardrobe and are thinking about selling your pieces online, it is a good idea to give them a makeover! Not only is it a fun little task, but it will give you a unique end product that will make you a bit of money! Vintage clothes are great, and with an added touch of creativity, you can make pieces that stand out. Use the following tips to help you re-style your old clothes and make them sellable again.

The first tip is to make sure your pieces are in the best shape possible. Inspect each piece thoroughly, and repair any tears, rips, or holes in the fabric. Make sure the buttons and clasps are securely attached. You should also iron your pieces to make them look as close to new!

Another tip is to look at the buttons, zips, or other clasps on the pieces. If they look worn or too outdated to ever come back into style, you can change these yourself. Just go to your local fabric store and find modern looking buttons and clasps to replace the old ones. You will be surprised at just how much of a transformation just changing the buttons can make. Simple, contemporary buttons and clasps can instantly update an old look, and bring the glory back to a vintage piece. However, if you wanted to keep the vintage look, you can also replace the worn buttons with antique style buttons.

If you really want to re-vamp a vintage piece, try adding some embellishments to it. You can add feathers on the shoulders, beadwork around the collar, or pearls on the bodice. You just have to use a little bit of creativity. Start by looking at your vintage piece. Take your piece with you to a fabric store. Lay different embellishments on your piece until you find the perfect look. Then, you can buy your embellishments to take home and sew on the garment. You can really dress up a casual piece using this method.

Another way to re-vamp a vintage piece to re-sell online is to use accessories to modernise the look. If you have a gorgeous Vintage Dress, you can make it look even better by draping a complementary belt around the waist or tying a scarf around the neck. A beautiful pin placed on a vintage sweater can add glamour and style to a piece. You can find a great necklace to make a piece look even better. Online shoppers will pay attention to the accessories you use with a piece as it helps them to visualise what the item could look like with other accessories.

A final tip is to pair some of your vintage pieces together to create cohesive looks that shoppers will want to buy. Instead of selling pieces individually, show your buyers how the pieces work together, and they just might buy all of them. You can pair a vintage jacket with a matching skirt, or you can pair a vintage jacket over a colourful sweater.

You can re-sell your vintage clothes just by altering them a bit. Be inspired and get creative to sell your pieces online.
