Africa Ethic

Ethic vegans and vegetarians, have you thought of this?
There are people being killed. There are children sold as sex slaves. There are massacres and slaughters in Africa. There are places in the world where a man could beat his wife to death and be considered normal. There are people with no food to eat. How could you worry about ANIMALS at a time when PEOPLE are suffering? You are trying to save a bunch of inferiors who cannot even appreciate your efforts and who will all die sooner or later.
How incredibly arrogant of you to assume that you know how vegans and vegetarians feel and think, and even more arrogant and ignorant to assume that they are uninterested in and ignorant of human rights issues.
Your own questions seem to be largely about health, fitness and exercise, and you seem dedicated to working out – I could ask how can you worry about your own miserable skin when there are people suffering and starving around the world.
I am a vegan. I am also a life-long political activist, now in my mid-fifties, with a history of campaigning for human rights, in the course of which I have risked arrest and injury and seen several comrades imprisoned and one die. I will match my record on fighting for human rights against yours any day. Care to take up that challenge?
At the same time, I’m vegan to minimise my personal contribution to animal suffering and exploitation as much as I can. This in no way interferes with my commitment to human rights. I value human life way over animal life, but I have room for more than one idea in my head.
You aren’t the first person to come to V&V expecting to find a bunch of mindless hippies whose naivety you can have a little fun with, and thinking you had the ultimate Gotcha! question that would make them all look foolish.
And like others before you you’ve found that mot of us are intelligent and articulate people who can give as good as we get.
